Mugwort is a widely growing herb native to temperate Europe, Africa, and Asia. It belongs to the same family of plants as wormwood. Like wormwood, it has a long history of being used for flavoring and for medicinal purposes, particularly for pain relief, treatment of fever, and as a diuretic. Mugwort Essential Oil contains the fragrant compounds that give Mugwort its characteristic scent, and it also contains moderate amounts of thujone, a powerful psychoactive substance. For this reason, therapeutic use of Mugwort Essential Oil requires particular care, and prolonged use of Mugwort Essential Oil should be avoided.
NOTE: Due to its moderate thujone content, Mugwort Essential Oil should not be used on children, during pregnancy, or while breastfeeding.
