With a light, waxy texture and the color of bright golden honey, Meadowfoam Seed Oil is one of our favorite go-to carrier oils when making blends or body oils. This sunny, vibrant oil is named for its white-tipped flower blossoms that mirror the look of ocean foam on the shore. These flowers were cultivated initially for their use as a renewable livestock crop and are now used in many beauty and healthcare products due to the oil’s ability to withstand high-heat and remain shelf-stable. Its flowers are annually grown and flourish easily without the use of pesticides or fertilizers making them a prolific, renewable agricultural resource.

Our virgin, unrefined Meadowfoam Seed Oil stands out from others on the market due to its gentle distillation process and cold-pressed extraction method. This minimal processing allows the oil to retain its delicate therapeutic components and rich hue, which distinguishes it from other more heavily refined and processed Meadowfoam oils that contain fewer carotenoids causing them to appear clear in color and less distinctive.

Its quick absorption rate and moisture-locking capabilities make this oil a great addition to your skin and hair care routine. We love using this oil as a dilution for our more viscous, thicker oils such as Rose and Jasmine due to its ability to increase shelf-life and potency of aroma. This oil also has a knack for mimicking sebum, which is the oil that is naturally secreted by skin glands as a protective shield against pollutants and external irritants. It tends to work well with sensitive, acne prone skin, as it balances oil production and reduces the appearance of scars and discoloration. It also contains tocopherol, which is a component of Vitamin E and a useful aid in slowing down the skin aging process.

Meadowfoam is an antioxidant which also protects against UV damage and inflammation caused by reactions to pollutants in the environment.

Be sure to try out some of these tried and true recipes we’ve formulated for a DIY body/face blend and hair healer:

Apply to face and neck after daily cleansing routine.

Mix the Meadowfoam Seed Oil and the Yarrow Essential Oil, and then apply the blend to your scalp and to the roots of your hair. Allow it to sit for a half hour and then wash it out with your usual shampoo.

Keep in mind:

People that have allergies to nuts might experience an allergic reaction to Meadowfoam Seed Oil.

Make sure your Meadowfoam oil has a dark orange-yellow hue, as the more heavily processed versions will not hold the same therapeutic value and might contain additives.
