Description
Petitgrain essential oil comes from the bitter orange tree, the same tree that yields neroli essential oil and bitter orange essential oil. While neroli is extracted from the flowers of the tree and bitter orange essential oil is extracted from the orange peel, petitgrain is extracted from the leaves and twigs.
Its name means "little grain" and refers to the unripe orange fruits that petitgrain was originally extracted from. Petitgrain essential oil shares many uses with neroli essential oil, and it can often function as a less costly alternative to neroli.
In particular, petitgrain inspires confidence and helps build emotional resilience. It can calm anxieties and help prevent insomnia.
It is also useful for treating a range of skin issues, such as acne, blemishes, and excessive skin oiliness.
Properties: Antiseptic, Antidepressant, Sedative, Nervine, Antibacterial
Perfumery Note: Top
Aroma: Citrusy, Fresh, Floral, Sweet (Similar to Neroli, but lighter)
Blends with: Neroli, Basil, Benzoin, Bergamot, Lavender, Geranium, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang
