Description
The therapeutic components of this hydrosol are the same as that of Hawaiian Sandalwood Essential Oil, which is rapidly becoming one of the most sought after essential oils.
The Hawaiian variety is exceptionally sweet and rich in comparison to other Sandalwood varieties.
The hydrosol is light and refreshing. It's aroma can be described as pleasant wood burning and caramel, warm, and attractive.
Hawaiian Sandalwood hydrosol comes from Organic Hawaiian Sandalwood that's grown and distilled on the Big Island of Hawaii. It's produced by a family owned and operated 2,800 sandalwood acre farm that serves an ongoing Hawaiian Sandalwood reforestation project.
For every Sandalwood tree that is harvested, 25 more are planted in its place. This type of farming allows for a renewable source of this wondrous Hawaiian Sandalwood Essential Oil.
Until recently, Hawaiian Sandalwood had been unavailable for roughly 200 years due to over harvesting of the trees. This eco-project ensures that Hawaiian Sandalwood trees will continue to survive and thrive on the island of Hawaii, and their benefits will continue to be shared with the world for many more generations.
About Hydrosols:
A natural byproduct of essential oil distillation, hydrosols are becoming more widely used as a gentle counterpart to traditional essential oils....
During the process of steam distilling essential oils, the smaller essential oil molecules become suspended in the steam water instead of floating to the top where the essential oils are collected.
After the essential oils are collected, the remaining steam water with suspended essential oil molecules is known as the essential oil hydrosol.
Hydrosols carry the same energetic imprint and therapeutic properties as essential oils, while being much gentler and in many cases more suitable for applying directly to the skin.
Hydrosols are refreshing and light. They have a slight aroma compared to essential oils. They are great for cooling off, toning the skin, rebalancing emotionally and gently benefiting from the therapeutic properties of the essential oil.
Properties: Antiphlogistic, Antiseptic, Antispasmodic, Aphrodisiac, Astringent, Bactericidal, Carminative, Decongestant, Diuretic, Emollient, Expectorant, Fungicidal, Insecticidal, Sedative, Tonic
Benefits
Skincare...Hawaiian Sandalwood hydrosol is prized for its effects in promoting smooth and healthy skin. Santalol, a major chemical compenent in Hawaiian Sandalwood, relaxes tension on the surface of the skin and softens the skin.
Thanks to its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, it may be effective in reducing scars and blemishes, especially when sprayed onto the skin regularly.
Aphrodisiac / Impotence...Practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine traditionally use sandalwood as an aphrodisiac. The aroma of this hydrosol alone stimulates relaxation and receptivity, and with it's high santalol content.
The essential oil is used in aromatherapy to increase sexual desire, and especially help alleviate impotence in men. The hydrosol may be used for the same purpose.
Uplifting...Used to enhance the mood, focus the mind, and invite a feeling of calm. As a result, it's excellent to aid meditation and spiritual practice.
Relaxant & Sedative....Recommended by aromatherapists to help relax nerves and muscles.
Gentle Care...This hydrosol spray is hydrating, soothing, and gentle on the skin.
Emotionally Therapeutic...Need a moment to calm down, refocus your energy and/or soothe yourself? This hydrosol spray allows you to clear the air, freshen your space, and refocus on the task at hand or just relax.
Cancer Therapy...According to a review on Pubmed.gov, "the antitumour and cancer preventive properties of alpha-santalol have been shown to involve cell death induction through apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in various cancer models"

History
Hawaiian Sandalwood has a unique history. It was on the verge of extinction until a few decades ago, and I for one am so glad for the reforestation project that brought it back.
Up until the late 1700's, sandalwood trees that grew on Hawaii Island were used by the natives for waterproofing and scenting clothing, making musical instruments and tools, and for treating dandruff, lice, skin conditions, and sexually transmitted diseases.
But once King Kamehameha conquered the islands in 1791, he realized the value of Hawaiian Sandalwood as a trade commodity.
Kamehameha taxed the people of Hawaii to the point where they had to extract sandalwood trees from the mountains in order to pay the king's tax.
Apparently, trading sandalwood trees allowed Kamehameha to pursue his obsession with acquiring guns, ships, and other traded goods.
By around 1825 the sandalwood population on Hawaii was so decimated that Hawaiian Sandalwood was nearly impossible to come by for around 200 years.
That was until recent decades, when a reforestation project brought back the production of Hawaiian Sandalwood in a sustainable way.
When I visited the Hawaiian Sandalwood forest farm some years back, I learned that only dead and dying sandalwood trees are harvested for their wood and essential oils.
It brings joy to my being to know that these wonderfully fragrant tress get to live out their lives on the slopes of Mauna Loa before they are transformed into useful objects, and the most delicious sandalwood oil I've ever experienced.
You can check out the reforestation forest farm's website Here, and even book a tour if you feel so inclined. This is the same source that supplies larger brands who sell Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil for up to double our price.
