Essential Oils for Pain Relief

When I mention using essential oils for pain relief, most people think of using essential oils for muscle pain relief. But did you know that essential oils are useful for any kind of pain? Pain that’s attributed to general inflammation, joints, bruises, sprains, body aches, cuts, and more can all be remediated and alleviated with the help of essential oils.

essential oils for pain reliefIn this article, I’ll share how I came up with Miracle Botanicals Pain Relief Formula as well as our Advanced Pain & Nerve Formula (which includes Cannabis Essential Oil) for relief of muscle, joint, and nerve pain.

Instead of attempting to mask pain, essential oils deliver chemical messages that help the mind find pathways to release itself from the pain it projects. Because of this, the result of using essential oils for pain relief tends to be perceived as somewhat miraculous. Even some of my own family members, who were skeptical of the healing benefits of natural essential oils, became enthusiasts after trying them.

Many people discover essential oils for pain relief after medications and other conventional methods have failed them. Unlike medications, essential oils work on the etheric dimension, where pain signals originate. Pain is never a physical problem, although it manifests as a physical condition. Pain reflects fear in the mind, and essential oils communicate chemical messages that dispel fear…the actual cause of pain.

Essential Oils for Muscle & Joint Pain

The most common and convenient way to use aromatherapy for pain relief is to purchase a formula of essential oils for muscle and joint pain that’s pre-diluted in a carrier oil. When diluting pure essential oils for pain relief on your own, it’s a good idea to keep the potency between 10-20% dilution, unless you’re working with children, in which case, you want to go with very light dilutions. (To learn more about how to use essential oils with babies and children, see This Article.) After hearing the stories of the two formulas I’ve created, you can decide whether you would rather purchase one of my blends, make your own, or try something else.

I came up with Miracle Botanicals Pain Relief Formula when an elderly MD asked me to formulate something that could help alleviate the pain in her arthritic knees. She had already purchased our Palo Santo Essential Oil and Foraha Carrier Oil and was using them for them with great results, but she wanted to be able to go to the gym and work out without her knees bothering her.

Palo Santo is a wood that comes from Ecuador. It’s known to be super anti-inflammatory and is slightly numbing making it one of the best essential oils for joint and muscle pain. To boost that pain-relieving power even further, I added Helichrysum Italicum and German (Blue) Chamomile essential oils to the mix. Both of these natural oils are traditionally celebrated for their soothing properties, and they come with an array of other healing benefits. Click on each one to read more about them individually.

More than just Pain Relief – Essential Oils Can Help Clean Up Debris

Using Foraha as a carrier oil will up-level any pain relief essential oil formula. Known as Kamani here in Hawaii, it has been used traditionally, and to this day, by locals specifically for relieving pain. Pure Kamani oil for pain relief can be found at some Farmer’s markets in Hawaii.

About after she began using my Pain Formula, the elderly doctor reported back to me saying that not only was she able to do the things she wanted to do, but perhaps even more extraordinary and unexpected, she felt like whatever was in her knee causing the pain was also disintegrating with continued use. Her impressive testimonial convinced me to make this formula available to everyone through the Miracle Botanicals collection.

After my Pain Relief Formula was offered for sale, more reviews, not unlike the first, continued to come in. The types of pain people were dealing with varied widely, and everyone was experiencing relief. We have had so many happy friends, family, and customers report to us that this formula has been incredible for them.

Essential Oils for Nerve Pain

A few years later, I received a call from an elderly man who was in a lot of pain. Without even trying my original Pain Relief Formula, he wanted me to formulate something for him that included nerve relief. At first, I didn’t think I could improve on what I already developed, but this man was insistent that I make him something that would help him with his nerve pain.

So, I added Birch, Copaiba, and Cannabis essential oils to the mix, and voila! Now I had an Advanced Pain and Nerve Formula, also using Foraha as a carrier oil. The man reported back so happy that the formula “worked better than his pain medications.”

Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Essential Oils

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard about astounding results from customers who have used one of my two blends. I also hear it from people who use our other essential oils, which is no surprise since all essential oils have anti-inflammatory properties. With inflammation being a root cause of pain in the physical sense, is it any wonder the effects of pure essential oils can be so pronounced?

Fear and stress can also factor into the causes of inflammation and the experience of pain. In terms of aromatherapy, essential oils communicate a frequency that encourages the mind to release fear. In this way, essential oils may help to relieve pain even prior to or without contact with the skin.

Of course, applying essential oils, including my pain-relief blends, topically may boost those effects even further, and a common, traditional use of essential oil for pain relief involves applying Black SpruceCannabis Sativa, or Frankincense essential oil directly to the skin at the site of the pain. I’ve also heard from folks who have taken a little bit of our Cannabis essential oil under their tongue with great results. In my experience, all essential oils have anti-inflammatory properties. Why not give their time-tested, natural pain relief a try for yourself?
