Piñon pine turns a diffuser into a green, resinous forest, with that soft fruit sitting underneath. A few drops carry a medium room without any of the sharpness a cheap pine can bring. It is the wild-pine scent people who grew up near the trees know at once.
This oil brings a deep, resinous wood to a blend, the base a lot of brighter oils are missing. It dries down slow and holds the greener, fruitier part above it. Perfumers reach for piñon where a sharp pine would take over.
The fruity side is what sets piñon apart from other conifers, a soft, almost peachy note riding over the pine. That comes from the oil's own esters, nothing added. In a blend it reads as pine with fruit, which few conifer oils manage.
This oil reads like fresh-cut piñon pine in a room, the clean, woody air of the colder months. Diffused on its own it fills a space without turning sharp or harsh. A forest note for the house, and nothing more dressed up than that.
Piñon is one of the rarer oils on a serious shelf, wild-harvested from trees no one farms for oil. That is why a true Pinus edulis is hard to find and worth keeping once you have it. Collectors gather the conifers, and this is the fruity one among them.
Worked into a carrier oil, piñon pine makes a clean, woody-fresh scent to wear close to the skin. It sits light, more forest than perfume, with the fruit softening the pine. We keep it in a carrier and never wear it neat.
Add 3 to 5 drops to a water diffuser for a medium room, then build up a drop at a time until the room smells right. Piñon carries well, so a little does a lot. Run it 30 to 60 minutes, then give the room a rest with fresh air moving before the next round.
Dilute piñon pine to 1 to 2 percent before it touches skin, which is 6 to 12 drops in 30 ml of a carrier oil. Keep the face lower, 0.5 to 1.2 percent, or 3 to 7 drops in 30 ml. Patch test a small spot on the inner forearm and wait a day before wider use. We do not use this oil neat, and it stays out of reach of children.
Stir 4 to 6 drops into about a tablespoon of carrier oil or an unscented bath oil, then add that to a full tub. Oil and water do not mix on their own, so the carrier is what carries the drops onto skin diluted rather than neat. Swirl the water and get in.
Store piñon pine cool, dark and tightly closed, and use it while it is fresh. Like other pine-family oils it can oxidize over time, and an oil past its best is more likely to bother the skin. A capped bottle kept out of the light lasts longer.

Method. Run the blend in a water diffuser, 30 to 60 minutes. The citrus lifts it at the start while the fir keeps it green, so the piñon sits underneath as the fruity resin. Add a little more piñon if you want the wood to come forward.
Method. Mix the drops into the jojoba in a small bottle and roll it between your palms before use. Smooth it over the shoulders and forearms, where the wood and fruit linger. Cap it, keep it out of the sun, and use it within a few months.
Method. Stir the drops into the carrier oil, then pour it into a full tub and swirl before you step in. The lavender rounds the pine off without covering the fruit. Rinse the tub afterward, since oils leave a film.

I grew up around piñon trees. Don't get me wrong I love the pine trees, and the juniper but there is some about the piñon. I'm so glad MB has this oil now. It's my favorite oil on my shelf. If you like pine or juniper you will like this oil too
