Description
Anise Seed Essential Oil - also called Aniseed - has a warm and spicy aroma. It is steam distilled from the seeds of a flowering plant that is native to the Mediterranean, and is in the same plant family as carrots, celery, and parsley.
Anise Seed is completely unrelated to the Star Anise tree that is native to China, though these two oils do have a strikingly similar aroma and properties. This is because they both have very high levels of a chemical component called anethole. There is a lot of false information out there about this particular oil, because it is so commonly confused for Star Anise, so be extra mindful when researching this plant.
The intense licorice-like aroma of Anise Seed Essential Oil bares many similarities to Star Anise, Sweet Fennel, and Tarragon, and can be a potent addition to a blend with just a drop or two.
The medicinal benefits of Anise Seed Essential Oil are far reaching and this oil has been used to clear up congestion and colds, relieve aches and pains, and help rid the body of immune draining pathogens. Anise Seed Essential Oil has been found to be sedating in nervous system conditions such as epilepsy and convulsions.
NOTE: Anise Seed Essential Oil can be dangerous for the nervous system if taken in high doses. Make sure to properly dilute before use and keep out of reach of children. May also cause skin irritation.
