This Essential Oil Lice Treatment can help get rid of lice naturally and effectively.

There are various essential oils which may be used for the treatment and prevention of lice infestations. Rosemary Essential Oil is one of the most effective for ridding of lice, as the oil contains a superior amount of terpinen-4-ol. Terpinen-4-ol, a terpene, acts as an insecticide, as the compound has convulsive effect on the insects central nervous system, forcing the lice to flee the treated area.

Follow the quick and easy recipes below to keep your scalp clean and lice free.

Lice Prevention:

If you happen to be around others with headlice, use this prevention hair rinse 2-3 times weekly to detract lice from nesting in your mane.

5 Drops Rosemary Essential Oil

2 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil

2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar

1 Cup Water

Apply this rinse in the shower in place of shampoo.

Alternatively,  add 3-5 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil to 1 tablespoon of preferred shampoo, or make a spray mist with Rosemary and/or Peppermint by adding 20 drops of essential oil to 2oz filtered water and mist hair every morning.

Lice Treatment:

If lice do happen to create a home in your mane, massage the following blend of Pure Essential Oils diluted in Tamanu, aka Foraha, (a fatty oil that helps kill lice and reduce dandruff) into the scalp, saturating every portion of the scalp. Leave the treatment in for about an hour. After allowing the oils to sit in the scalp, comb through the hair thoroughly with a lice comb to rid of all lice eggs. Perform this treatment 1-2 times daily for roughly 3-5 days, or until all lice and eggs are removed.

6 Drops Rosemary Essential Oil

3 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil

5 Drops Lemon Essential Oil

3-4 Tablespoons Pure Unfiltered Tamanu Oil

Cautions: Make sure when applying the treatment not to allow the oils to run into the eyes. If so, make sure to rinse out with liquid fatty oil like Coconut, Olive or Argan or Meadowfoam. Do NOT try to rinse with water, as that will cause the essential oils to penetrate the eyes and surrounding tissues. Also, while soaking with the treatment, avoid heavy sun contact, as the lemon essential oil is photosensitizing, which means it can lighten the hair and may cause sensitivity to the scalp.
