Who doesn’t want thick, healthy hair with volume? We have discovered several essential oils that can not only help strengthen and thicken hair but stimulate hair follicles enough to grow more hair on the scalp!

How can Essential Oils help stimulate Hair Growth?

Many essential oils stimulate increased blood circulation by encouraging release of inflammation from the body - which widens blood vessels. Allowing more circulation to the scalp can also promote more hair growth.

Increasing your own hair growth can be a lot like watering a seed and seeing it grow into a plant over time. Try using a few drops of essential oils on the scalp routinely to cultivate a more nourishing garden for your hair to grow. In addition to reducing inflammation and increasing circulation to the scalp, some essential oils also possess properties that can naturally balance your scalp's sebum production and eradicate problematic skin conditions, such as dandruff.

Just like having healthy soil is the first step toward having a flourishing garden, making sure you have a healthy scalp is the first step toward growing healthy, strong hair.

We love using regular self massage for overall scalp health and hair growth! Try getting a few drops of essential oil and carrier oil in your hands and using your finger tips to massage the oils into your scalp. Employing this method regularly can result in dandruff reduction, nourished hair, and new hair growth.

If you particularly struggle with thinning or weak hair and would like to prevent hair loss, try incorporating some of the following oils into your hair care routine.

Which Essential Oils and Carrier Oils can Promote Hair Growth?

There have been significant results reported in the following studies on hair growth stimulation for Lavender, Rosemary and Peppermint Essential Oils. These oils must be infused in a carrier oil before massaging into the scalp. We will get into which carrier oils are the best for hair next.

Lavender

Based on a clinical study done in 2016, Lavender was clinically proven to promote thicker and fuller hair. Lavender Essential Oil is one of most researched essential oils and proves to have a versatile range in therapeutic benefits including easing stress and depression.

Rosemary

Rosemary Essential Oil was also used in a clinical study where it was found that after 6 months of use on the scalp a significant amount of hair growth was recorded. Rosemary is also stimulating to the mind. We recommend Rosemary as a plant companion to help focus and activate for optimal brain function and memory retention.

Peppermint

Peppermint also proved to be effective for hair growth in the following study. Peppermint is stimulating and recommended to be applied diluted in Carrier Oil.

Hair Tonic Essential Oil Blend

Our Hair Tonic Blend is an activating and supportive blend of Scotch Pine, Eucalyptus Globulus, Rosemary Verbenone, Niaouli, Clove Bud, and Pink Grapefruit. We find this blend to be stimulating for the scalp, encouraging reduced inflammation, and widened blood vessels for better circulation. This blend can also help to balance your scalp's natural sebum production and reduce oiliness.

This blood flow allows more nourishment to reach the hair follicles. The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of this blend also make it the perfect remedy for acne, dandruff, and flakiness of the scalp. Inhale the invigorating herbal aroma of this blend during application to enjoy it's balancing and stress-reducing properties as well.

Some people enjoy adding Hair Tonic blend to their shampoo/conditioner, while others just massage a few drops of the pure blend into the scalp after washing or rinsing their hair. (We find that this method does work better on damp hair.)

Another great option is to dilute your Hair Tonic in some Argan Oil and massage into the scalp and hair after a shower. This works especially well if you find that you tend to have a drier scalp. We invite you to play with this blend and see what applications work best for you!

Carrier Oils

Now that we have covered the main Essential Oils that encourage hair growth, let’s go over the carrier oils that are most commonly used to help prevent hair breakage/split ends while also further nourishing the scalp.

Castor Oil

Because Castor Oil contains ricinoleic acid it may encourage scalp circulation, in turn promoting stronger, nourished hair. Castor Oil also contains antimicrobial properties that could help release fungal overgrowth and inflammation from the scalp. Castor Oil is known to penetrate the deepest layers of the skin and to help detox the body, although there isn’t enough clinical research done to prove these claims. Even so, Castor Oil is found in the most popular Hair Growth Oils on the market today. In our experience, Castor Oil is a must for most scalp recipes.

Pomegranate Seed Oil

Miracle Botanicals Pomegranate Seed Oil is packed with fatty acids and vitamins that are known to help protect and nourish hair. Pomegranate Seed Oil absorbs quickly and can be applied to the scalp without weighing down the hair.

This study shows evidence of Pomegranate Punica granatum L. Extract to be effective not only for hair growth, but as a dandruff and lice treatment as well.

Rose Hip Seed Oil

Our Miracle Botanicals Team has seen amazing results when using Rose Hip on the scalp. Because of high vitamin content, it is known to promote strong, healthy hair. Rose Hip was clinically studied as an effective way to help release inflammation and pain from the body as well. This may suggest that it can also help with hair growth, as reduced inflammation is good for the scalp.
