Bergamot Essential Oil - Wildcrafted (Citrus Bergamia)
- Fruit-peel oil of Citrus bergamia, from Italy. The bergamot orange, a citrus grown and pressed in Italy.

- Fresh citrus, orange over lemon. A lively citrus that lifts first and softens as it settles.
- Wildcrafted and third-party tested. An outside lab confirms it is the true oil, with no synthetics added.
- An oil we use ourselves. Like everything we sell, this is an oil we use ourselves too.
- The same oil in every size. Pick the bottle that suits you on the Compare tab, and start small if bergamot is new to you. Compare sizes.

6 benefits of Bergamot Essential Oil
A fresh citrus for the diffuser
Bergamot is a lively citrus to diffuse, the kind of scent that brightens a room without weight. It fills a space and then eases back, so a little carries a long way. In the air it never meets skin, so the sun caution never comes up.
The citrus that opens a cologne
This is the classic citrus that opens the cologne accord, the fresh lift a citrus cologne is built on. On the perfumer's bench it brings a blend an orange-bright opening. The true, whole oil carries the real aroma of the fruit, not a thinned copy.
A lift over florals and woods
In a blend, bergamot adds a citrus lift over florals and woods. It doesn't last long on its own, so it wants a heavier oil under it to hold the citrus in place. Paired with a wood or a resin, that lift stays around far longer than it would alone.
A warm bath, dispersed in carrier
A warm bath is a natural home for bergamot, dispersed first through a little carrier so it doesn't sit on the surface. Because a bath rinses away, it's the easy-going side of a citrus that is otherwise strict on skin. The scent lifts off the water as you settle in.
For the connoisseur of real citrus
Bergamot for the collector is wildcrafted and independently tested, the true thing rather than a stripped or stretched copy. The fruit has been faked and cut for centuries, so proof of species and purity is the point. It belongs with the hard-to-find oils we keep for people who know the difference.
On the skin, worn low and safe
Worn on skin, bergamot is a light citrus to wear once it is mixed well into a carrier oil. It needs the sun caution on skin, so keep it low and away from skin that strong sun will reach. What's left after an hour is a soft, clean citrus close to the skin.
How to use
Diffuser
In the airStart with 3 to 5 drops in a water diffuser for a medium room, then add a drop at a time until it smells right to you. Run it about 30 to 60 minutes, then give the room a rest with fresh air moving. Because the oil stays in the air rather than on the body, a diffuser blend is not bound by the sun limit.
On the skin
TopicalBergamot is phototoxic, because the expressed peel oil holds bergapten, so keep it at or below 0.4% in any leave-on product and keep treated skin out of strong sun for at least a day. That works out to about 2 drops in 30 ml of carrier oil, well under a normal body dilution. Patch test on the inner forearm, wait a day, and never use it neat.
In the bath
In the waterStir 4 to 6 drops into a tablespoon of carrier oil or an unscented bath oil, then add it once the tub is full. A rinse-off bath is a wash-off use, so it is not held to the 0.4% leave-on limit that skin products are. Oil and water do not mix, so the carrier is what lets the drops reach skin diluted, not neat.

Method. Add the oils to a water diffuser and run it for a half hour or so. The neroli and lavender give the citrus something to rest on as it lifts. Top up the water and run it again when the room needs it.
Method. Stir the drops into the jojoba, then swirl it into a full tub just before you get in. Because the bath rinses off, the citrus can go a little higher here than it would on bare skin. Rinse the tub afterward, since oils leave a film.
Method. Combine the oils in a 30 ml roller bottle of jojoba and roll it between your palms to mix. Bergamot stays at two drops, under the 0.4% leave-on limit, while the cedarwood and vetiver carry the blend. Wear it in the evening or under clothing, and keep it away from strong sun.
