Massoia Bark Essential Oil (Cryptocaryo Massoio)
- Steam-distilled massoia bark from Indonesia. Distilled from Cryptocarya massoia, a tree of the laurel family native to the islands of Indonesia, and a rare oil few houses carry.
- Creamy toasted coconut, caramel and nutty. The scent massoia is prized for, sweet and tropical, closer to dessert than to anything green.
- Made for the diffuser, not the skin. A potent aromatic that belongs in the air and stays off the skin. How to use it.
- Massoia lactone behind the coconut scent. The oil's dominant compound, and the quickest proof you have real massoia and not a coconut copy.
- An oil we use ourselves. Like everything we sell, this is one we keep at home, and it's third-party tested for synthetics and adulteration.
- The same oil in every size. Pick the bottle that suits you on the Compare tab, and start with a single drop if massoia is new to you. Compare sizes.

6 benefits of Massoia Bark Essential Oil
How to use
In a diffuser
In the airAdd 1 or 2 drops to a standard diffuser and let it run, giving the room fresh air between sessions of 30 to 60 minutes. A little massoia goes a long way, so start low and add more only if the scent is too faint. The oil is thick and sticky, so wipe the diffuser out well afterwards, or it can gum up the works.
In a blend for the air
PerfumeryA trace of massoia deepens a diffuser blend or an aroma accord, pulling tropical and gourmand scents together. Keep it to the smallest amount, since it is strong and tenacious and will take over a mix if you let it. This is a bench-and-diffuser oil, so blend it for the air, never for the skin.
Not for the skin or the bath
SafetyMassoia bark oil stays out of any skin blend and out of the bath, since its lactones make it far too sharp for direct contact. The natural oil is barred from cosmetic skin use under IFRA rules, so diffuse it or blend it for the air instead. Keep the bottle closed, out of reach of children, and away from broken or reactive skin.

Method. Add the drops to a water diffuser and run it for a session. The bergamot and lime lift the top while the massoia sits underneath as the sweet coconut, so the room reads like a tropical drink. Give the diffuser a wipe once you are done.
Method. Drop the oils into a running diffuser and warm the room. Vanilla rounds the coconut and the sandalwood gives it a dry, woody depth, so the blend turns cozy rather than sharp. Run it in a small space for the best effect.
Method. Combine the oils in a diffuser and switch it on. Pink grapefruit brightens the top, ylang ylang brings a creamy floral, and patchouli grounds the blend while massoia ties it together with coconut. Add one more drop of grapefruit if you want it brighter.
