Orange Essential Oil - Wildcrafted (Citrus Sinensis)
- Wildcrafted Citrus sinensis from Belize. Cold-pressed from the rind, taken from wild-growing trees rather than a cultivated grove.
- Limonene is the dominant constituent. It's the compound that gives the oil its bright, familiar citrus character.
- Safe to wear in the sun. Unlike lemon, grapefruit and lime, sweet orange needs no time out of the sun once it's mixed into a carrier for the skin.
- An orange we use ourselves. We use the oils we carry, and this is one of them.
- Third-party tested. This oil is tested by an independent outside lab, like everything else in our range.
- The same oil in every size. Pick the bottle that suits you on the Compare tab, from a small starter size up to a larger bottle. Compare sizes.

Wildcrafted orange, the cold-pressed peel oil of Citrus sinensis
6 benefits of Orange Essential Oil
A bright note in the diffuser
Sweet orange fills a room with a fresh, sweet citrus scent when you run it in a diffuser, the everyday reason to keep a bottle on the shelf. It carries an easy brightness without turning heavy, so it suits a kitchen or a work desk as much as a living room. A short run in the diffuser is enough to freshen the air of a space.
An easy citrus to begin with
Orange is one of the friendliest oils to start with, a familiar scent almost everyone knows and few people find too strong. It blends without fuss and forgives a heavy hand in the diffuser, which makes it a sensible first single oil. Start light and build up slowly until the room smells right.
A fresh note for skin care
Blended into a carrier oil, sweet orange adds a light, fresh citrus scent to a body oil or lotion. The reason to use it is the scent, not any claim on the skin itself, and it wears close and clean rather than sharp. Keep it low in the blend and pair it with a softer oil so the citrus doesn't take over.
A citrus with no sun wait
Sweet orange, unlike bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, lime and bitter orange, whose pressed peels carry a sun caution, is usually thought not to be phototoxic, so it carries no sun caution on the skin. Once it's worked into a carrier you can wear it and go out in daylight without a wait. Test a little on the skin first, as you would with any oil.
A lift for a blend
In a blend, sweet orange brings a bright citrus opening that lifts the other oils and makes the whole thing feel fresher. It plays well over warm spices, soft woods and florals without fighting them, and a little goes a long way. Use it where you want a citrus opening that reads clean rather than sharp.
Wild-harvested and tested
This orange is wild-harvested in Belize and checked by an outside lab, which is what stands behind the label. What comes off the press is the whole, unaltered citrus, nothing stretched or blended in. Buying from a small, focused range means the sourcing and the testing are the point, not the size of the catalog.
How to use
Diffuser
In the airAdd 3 to 5 drops of sweet orange to a water diffuser for a medium room, then a drop at a time until it smells right to you. Run it for 30 to 60 minutes, then give the room a break for the same time with some fresh air moving. Orange is bright and carries well, so a little is plenty.
On the skin
TopicalDilute sweet orange to 1 to 2 percent before it goes on the skin, which is about 6 to 12 drops in 30 ml of a carrier oil such as jojoba. Use 3 to 6 drops in 30 ml for the face. Patch test a small spot on the inner forearm and wait a day before wider use, and we do not use this oil neat. Lemon, lime, grapefruit, bergamot and bitter orange each come with a caution about sun exposure, but sweet orange itself is not phototoxic, so wearing it diluted needs no wait before daylight.
Bath
In the waterStir 4 to 6 drops of sweet orange into a tablespoon of carrier oil or an unscented bath oil, then add it once the tub is full. Oil and water don't mix, so the carrier is what lets the drops spread through the water and reach skin diluted rather than neat. Swirl the water and step in.

Method. The clove adds warmth under the bright orange and the frankincense a soft resin underneath. Add the drops to the diffuser water and run a short session.
Method. Stir the drops into the jojoba in a small bottle and roll it between your palms before use. The sandalwood holds the orange in place so the citrus lasts longer on the skin. Smooth a little over the arms and shoulders.
Method. Add the drops to a diffuser or to the water of a reed setup for a larger room. The lavender softens the orange and the cedarwood keeps it in the air longer. Top up the drops when the scent fades.
