Roman chamomile, not the blue German
Roman and German chamomile are two different plants that people often mix up. This one, Anthemis nobilis, is the ester-rich, pale-yellow oil with a sweet, fruity scent. German chamomile, Matricaria chamomilla, is the deep-blue oil, colored by chamazulene. If you want the soft floral rather than the blue herb, this is the one to pick.
How to use
Diffuser
In the airAdd 3 to 5 drops to a water diffuser for a medium room, then a drop at a time until the scent is where you want it. Run it in bursts, roughly 30 to 60 minutes on and then off, with fresh air moving through the room. Roman chamomile is soft, so you may not need much.
On the skin
TopicalDilute Roman chamomile to 1 to 2 percent for the body before it touches skin, which is 6 to 12 drops in 30 ml of a carrier oil. Keep it lower on the face, around 0.5 to 1.2 percent, and patch test a small spot on the inner forearm a day ahead if your skin is reactive or sensitive. We do not use this oil neat.
Bath
In the waterStir 4 to 6 drops into a tablespoon of carrier oil or unscented bath oil, then add it once the tub is full. Oil and water do not mix, so the carrier is what carries the drops through the water, reaching your skin diluted and not neat. Swirl it through and get in.

Method. Drop the oils into a water diffuser and run it for 30 to 60 minutes. The bergamot lifts the blend and the lavender rounds it out, so the Roman chamomile settles underneath as the sweet floral.
Method. Stir the drops into the jojoba, then pour it into a full tub and swirl before you get in. The lavender rounds off the chamomile without covering it. Rinse the tub afterward, since the oil leaves a film.
Method. Mix the drops into the jojoba in a small bottle and roll it between your palms before use. Smooth it over the shoulders or the inside of the wrists, where the soft floral stays close. Keep it capped and out of the sun, and use it within a few months.
