Description

There are two types of Thyme essential oil, one being red thyme, and the other Sweet Thyme. Sweet Thyme essential oil is the second distillation of the dried flowers and leaves.
The second distillation is less toxic than the first, making sweet thyme more suitable to older people and children. Thyme essential oil is used in aromatherapy for a variety of ailments.
Historically, the oil was used as a disinfectant in hospitals during World War I. Today in aromatherapy, thyme essential oil is used to help with viral infections, eczema, bronchitis, psoriasis, and insomnia.

Thyme essential oil is known as a powerful immune system booster and may be used to prevent colds and flu. The oil is also a powerful disinfectant and has been deemed more effective than most common household cleaning products.

Sweet Thyme, containing thymol, is a powerful antiseptic and is used to assist with nail fungus treatment. The oil may be blended with a carrier oil and applied to the affected area twice daily for anti-fungal benefits.

Thyme is a favourite of mine

I make aromatic medicine for my family every winter and I use this chemotype of thyme. It’s wonderful to smell and especially good for salves as it is still antiseptic but gentler to the skin then regular thyme.
